Eros Orange Paste Tomato Review

Rate this

Quick Summary of Eros

  • 🌍 Origin: A well-known novelty paste tomato, often considered the “brother” of the famous Auria variety, but with yellow-orange fruits.
  • 🌿 Plant Habit: Indeterminate (vining). Known for having “wispy foliage” (thin, delicate-looking vines) despite its tall and vigorous growth. Easily reaches the greenhouse roof.
  • 🍅 Fruit Characteristics: Elongated, cylindrical (phallic-shaped) fruits, sometimes ending with a blunt tip or a slight nipple. They are bright orange/yellow, very dense, meaty, and have hollow seed cavities (stuffer type). Weight is typically around 100-120g (3.5-4.2 oz).
  • 👅 Flavor & Culinary Use: The flesh is quite dry with a standard, mild tomato flavor. Not highly rated for fresh eating, but it is absolutely phenomenal for sun-drying, stuffing, and thick canning sauces.
  • Storage: Excellent keeper. It stores so well that it can naturally begin to “sun-dry” itself indoors.
  • 💡 Pro Tip: Like many elongated paste varieties, Eros can be susceptible to Blossom End Rot (BER). Ensure consistent watering and adequate calcium levels in the soil.

Eros, the brother of Auria. But the fruits are smaller. The bush didn’t quite reach the roof of the greenhouse. I trained it to 3 stems. I grew it 2 years ago, don’t remember much about it 😳

Not a bad little tomato. But a bit on the dry side. 😳 But how can one not plant such a tomato, you need a couple of bushes for the collection and for marinades. 😄

Galyush (Galina), Eros is 1.5 times smaller than Auria.

I also had 2 bushes this year. They grew up to the roof, the harvest was not bad, but on some there was BER (blossom end rot) 😞 And the last fruits were not with an indented end, but vice versa with a little pointy nipple 😄

Eros – indeterminate, quite skinny (wispy foliage), mid-early, lived in the same planting hole with Auria. Prolific, the tomatoes are shorter and thicker than Auria’s, bright orange. I like them more for canning/processing than fresh. It didn’t get sick with anything. Maybe because of living together with Eros, my Auria this year was smaller, practically on par with Eros.

Hello everyone, girls. I grew Eros this year, also 2 bushes. I can say that there was blossom end rot (BER) on one bush and only on a few fruits on the first truss. Yes, fresh their taste is not ice (nothing special), but sun-dried!!! super!!! they are dry enough, perfect for drying. And since stuffer-types are generally not for open ground, another “dry” option is precisely Eros. And they are still quite prolific. 😉

I also grew it this year, it yielded normally, there was blossom end rot, I didn’t like the taste at all, I won’t plant it again.

The variety is productive, the taste is mediocre, a bit hollow inside. We have already tried it canned – not bad.

It was so beautiful. But nobody wanted to eat it ((( Nobody eats it from the jars either. Too dry. And the slugs took a fancy to it.

The seeds sat for a long time. The reviews weren’t great. But, I thought – I need to plant them, people tried hard to send them. I grew 1 bush. A very decent, good tomato! On the lower tier the fruits are analogues of Auria, higher up they become plumper and a bit hollow. Fresh in a salad with others it is quite suitable. Good in vegetable and other soups – looks beautiful. Stores for a long time, and at the same time “self-sun-dries” 😄, like Flaschentomaten. I gathered them all together today and shoved them in the freezer. I will use them in winter for soups, pizza… It is quite worthy to stay in my collection.

Planted Eros to keep Auria company.
Dry-ish, yes. there are voids in the fruits.
Productive. Stores well.
Tasty when canned.

And also it made an original, non-watery yellow “Khrenovina” (a spicy Russian sauce made of tomatoes, horseradish, and garlic) 🙂

But my Eros wasn’t dry at all, on the contrary, with quite juicy, thick walls and internal contents 🙂
Productive, prolific, yes… Stores for a long time in its original form ))) Beautiful and majestic in the autumn landscapes 🙈
