Elberta Girl Tomato Review & Photos

Share your rating
🍅 Quick take: Elberta Girl is a highly ornamental semi-determinate variety bred by the legendary American breeder Tom Wagner. It is famous for its stunning silvery-grey, angora-type foliage and small 1.4 oz (40 g) fuzzy red tomatoes with bright yellow stripes. While the plant is an absolute showstopper in the garden, the flavor of the fruit is generally described as a standard, everyday tomato taste rather than a standout. Full summary ↓

Semi-determinate, mid-season salad variety. Fruits are small, averaging around 1.4 oz (40 g), red with yellow stripes. The stems and foliage are silvery. Both the leaves and the fruits are fuzzy. Flavor is just your standard tomato taste. Grew this one outdoors in the dirt.

Lena, funny name for the variety. 😄

I grew Elberta Peach (we have it in the catalog), and it looks so much like Elberta Girl.

Full Summary: Plant, Yield, Taste and Storage

  • 🌿 Plant: Semi-determinate, mid-season. The plant is highly ornamental, boasting beautiful silvery foliage and stems. The 1.4 oz (40 g) fruits are red with striking yellow striping. Like its relative ‘Elberta Peach‘, the entire plant—leaves, stems, and fruits—is covered in a fine fuzz (angora type). Does well grown outdoors.
  • 📈 Yield: Produces a good crop of small, salad-sized tomatoes.
  • 👅 Taste: Unremarkable. Described as having a regular, standard tomato flavor without any standout notes. It is primarily grown for its incredible visual appeal.
  • 🌎 Who Reviewed It: 2 growers in this thread, representing USDA Zone 4.
