Growers’ Notes and Photos (USDA Zones 5-6 Experience)
Description
The Goldie tomato variety is well-known in international catalogs. It is mid-season, ripening 115-120 days after seedling emergence. Indeterminate vine, reaching up to 6 feet (1.8 m) in height. Pinching the growing tip is recommended since it is primarily cultivated in greenhouses. Requires standard indeterminate care: tying, pruning, and shaping. It’s best to prune the vine to two leaders by leaving one sucker.
The fruits are oblate, very uniform, and feature a stunning color. Fully ripe, they are deep orange-yellow on the outside and golden-yellow inside. Fruit weight hits 10.5-17.5 oz (300-500 g). The flavor is superb. These tomatoes are sweet with a light fruity aroma. Perfect for fresh eating, juicing, or purees. Not ideal for whole canning. Shelf life is decent, storing for about 40 days, and they transport well without losing market appeal. Has moderate resistance to some diseases. Start seeds 55-60 days before greenhouse transplanting. Optimal spacing is three plants per square meter.
I read somewhere else that this heirloom is over 150 years old. Potato leaf. And yeah, it’s a late one, really took a while to get going.
Grew Goldie for 2 years. Loved the taste and color, yield was just average for me. But my foliage was regular leaf, not potato leaf. Catalog seeds.
Beautiful. Where did your seeds come from? I’m skipping it this year, got way too many new varieties to try.

From some old 2007 seeds from T. Yashchenko.
If it has potato leaves, it’s gotta be some other variety. The foliage is supposed to be regular leaf.
Highly productive, meaty, delicious, sweet, regular leaf.

The ones in that link look exactly like mine, I wonder what’s up with the foliage then?
Full Summary: Plant, Yield, Taste and Foliage Debate
- 🌿 Plant: Indeterminate, mid-to-late season vines reaching up to 6 feet (1.8 m). The true Goldie is a Regular Leaf (RL) variety, as noted by Angelina and Irina Fedorova. However, m_Kallista grew a Potato Leaf (PL) version from 2007 seeds that produced identical-looking fruits.
- 📈 Yield: Ratings range from average (Irina) to highly productive (Angelina). It can be slow out of the gate, so patience is required.
- 👅 Taste: Universally loved. Very sweet, meaty, and flavorful with a pleasant fruity aroma.
- 📦 Storage: Fruits are massive, typically 10.5-17.5 oz (300-500 g). The catalog description claims a surprisingly good shelf life of up to 40 days for a beefsteak.
- 🌎 Who Reviewed It: Three growers contributed to the thread, representing Zones 5 and 6.
