📌 Quick Summary (TL;DR): Italian Hearts (Italianskie Serdechki)
- 🌍 Origin: A variety circulated among Russian tomato collectors under the name “Italianskie Serdechki”. The exact pedigree is unknown, but it is a widely grown, stable open-pollinated oxheart.
- 🌿 Plant Habit: Indet. An early-season variety known for being highly adaptable. It sets fruit reliably without dropping blossoms during both heat waves and cold snaps. Performs well in greenhouses and open ground.
- 🍅 Fruit Characteristics: Deep pink to raspberry-colored oxhearts. Despite the name translating to “Little Hearts”, they frequently grow into full-sized oxhearts weighing 7 to 11 oz (200-300 g).
- 👅 Flavor: Sweet, meaty, and dense. Not watery, making them excellent for fresh eating and processing.

Italian Hearts is a wonderful variety, been one of my absolute favorites for a few years now. I plant it in the greenhouse for an early harvest and outdoors in the dirt too. Perfectly shaped raspberry-colored hearts. When they are fully ripe, you can’t really call them just pink, and you can’t really call them “little hearts” either, they are full-sized oxhearts. Very heavy yielder and a delicious variety. The fruits are meaty, not watery at all, and sweet.
