Growers’ Notes and Photos
IVORY TEARS
This delicate cherry caught my eye back in 2020. It instantly reminded me of the song Ivory Tears:
… Ivory tears, ivory tears
My old piano cries for me…
Ivory Tears is a cross from the Eleven Tears variety. It was bred in Belgium by Philippe Vermeulen and Gerd Freyman in 2020. Fully stable.
It’s an indeterminate, rambling vine that grows to about 6.5 feet (2 m) tall. The internodes are pretty wide, so growing it with multiple stems is highly recommended. Regular leaf. You usually get 10-12 elongated teardrop fruits per truss, weighing around 0.35-0.7 oz (10-20 g). Despite the pointy shape, it doesn’t suffer from BER at all.
These gorgeous ivory, yellowish-white, almost translucent fruits have an excellent sweet flavor with a fruity hint. The skin is tender, and the flesh is ivory too.
It pumps out a steady harvest right up until the cold hits.
An absolutely spectacular variety! Easily in my top 3 favorite cherries.
