Quick Summary of Jarson 13 (Ochre Pear)

  • 🌍 Origin & Breeding: A highly sought-after amateur variety bred by a Polish breeder known as Jarson. It was created by crossing two legendary Russian heirlooms: Malakhitovaya Shkatulka (Malachite Box) and Yellow Khurma (Persimmon).
  • 🌿 Plant Habit: Indeterminate (vining) with regular foliage. It performs exceptionally well outdoors, reaching about 1.5 – 1.7 meters (5 – 5.6 ft) in open ground, and taller in a greenhouse.
  • 🍅 Fruit Characteristics: Stunning, pear-shaped/plum tomatoes with a beautiful ochre-honey color. The tops are uniquely pleated (gathered) around the stem. Fruits grow in trusses of 5-6 and typically weigh 200-250g (7-8.8 oz).
  • 👅 Flavor & Texture: It inherits the best traits from its parents. The flesh is dense, fruity, and literally melts in the mouth. The taste is distinctly sweet with a very subtle, refreshing tartness and a bright fresh aroma.
  • Storage: Unlike many sweet, fleshy heirlooms, Jarson 13 has an incredibly long shelf life, keeping well for months after being picked.

A variety from the Polish breeder Jarson, bred by crossing Malakhitovaya Shkatulka (Malachite Box) and Yellow Khurma (Persimmon).

The bush grew outdoors in the open ground, 1.5 – 1.7 meters (5 – 5.6 ft) tall, regular plain leaf. It set beautiful pears, slightly pleated (gathered) at the stem, of an ochre-honey color. Fruit weight 200-250g (7-8.8 oz). 5-6 fruits in a truss. On the cross-section, it has that same ochre color, bright, with some kind of fresh aroma.

The taste is sweet with a barely noticeable tartness, the consistency is fruity, the flesh simply melts in the mouth. They store very well, today I was slicing fruits for a salad that were picked back in September.
