Growers’ Notes and Photos (USDA Zones 4-6 Experience)
Red-raspberry color. Grew outdoors in the dirt very well. Taste is sourish, like the most ordinary tomatoes, nothing special noted. But the bushes are loaded with tomatoes, medium height. Rating – 3 out of 5. We won’t plant it anymore, didn’t save seeds, there are plenty of more interesting varieties out there.

I agree, the most ordinary taste! The bush wasn’t tall and was very sprawling.
But I’m going to plant it!
I love having a lot of raspberry-colored tomatoes, tasty and sweet! 👍
Unfortunately, there are so many interesting varieties… just not enough space for them all 👋
Otherwise I’d plant the entire garden with them.

Raya, but Malinovoe Vikante is more sour than any hybrid 😮. To be fair, I think mine was from the Gavrish seed brand.
I wouldn’t say it’s a total acid bomb. But still, sour and not particularly tasty.
Well what do you expect… it’s a simple southern tomato! 🌺
My seeds are local. 🙂
It’s quite possible that up north it’ll be tasty the first year, but then it goes downhill.
Well, ain’t that something 😄
I actually liked it, but I can’t find seeds for it around here 😕
Mine were sweet, good for juice, very juicy, but in our climate they get sunscald. Last year all I managed to do was save some seeds. In 2015 I planted them in partial shade, morning sun and then dappled light through the trees. They did great, heavy yield, the biggest one was 10.5 oz (300 g).
Regarding the seeds, our seed producer was ASK. Managed to get out to their brand store this week, wanted to check for seeds of this “miracle” for forum members. They didn’t have any, the clerk said they are completely out of this variety right now.
How is Malinovoe Vikante in the seedling stage, sturdy or spindly?
Planted Malinovoe Vikante – not thrilled with it. Might be my own fault – decided to follow what the internet says and not prune the suckers, and the result was dismal.
Full Summary: Plant, Yield, Taste, and Comparisons
- 🌿 Plant: A determinate (bush) variety. It stays relatively short but gets very sprawling. Known to be susceptible to sunscald in hot, sunny climates, so planting in partial shade (like dappled afternoon light) is recommended.
- 📈 Yield: Very high potential. Growers routinely report bushes being “loaded” with fruit, though attempting a completely no-prune approach can lead to dismal results.
- 👅 Taste: Highly debated. Several growers call it aggressively acidic (“sourish,” “an acid bomb worse than any hybrid”) and ordinary. Others report sweet, juicy tomatoes that max out around 10.5 oz (300 g) and make excellent juice.
- 🌎 Who Reviewed It: Grown by forum members in Russia (Kostroma) and Ukraine (Donetsk), spanning USDA Zones 4-6.
