Growers’ Notes and Photos (USDA Zones 3-6 Experience)
MEDOVYI (HONEY). Mid-season, highly productive variety. Vines reach 5.2-5.9 ft (1.6-1.8m). Fruits are oblate, raspberry-pink, pure meat, and massive—up to 2.2 lbs (1kg) with excellent flavor.

2014 season, grown out in the dirt. Very good plant 👍

Hey folks, where is this one better suited: greenhouse or outdoors?
For the Moscow region, definitely a greenhouse. It’s a late-season variety.
Weather and temps in Moscow aren’t that different from Lipetsk 😉 And you can see my outdoor Lipetsk results in the photo above lol.
Marina, where did you get your seeds? I grew this a couple of years ago and got nothing even close to your beauties 😞

A fellow forum member shared the seeds with me 😉
My Medovyi. Really liked this variety—productive, and almost all of them were quite large.
2015 Season:

Seeds from Shevchuk (Ukraine).
– Plant habit: Mid-late, sprawling, and very vigorous.
– Blossom set: Sets every cluster without skipping.
– Height outdoors: 5.5 ft (1.7m) in mid-August, reaching 5.9 ft (1.8m) by early September as the last fruits ripen.
– Clusters hold 2-4 tomatoes.
– Overall yield is high.
– Fruit: 10-12 oz (280-350g), oblate, a perfect pink with no green shoulders.
– Density: Soft when fully ripe.
– Flavor: Meaty, harmonious, balanced, juicy, and delicious. A solid 5 for sweetness.
First impressions: A great, large, sweet tomato for fresh eating and processing. Ratings: Seedlings get a C-, vines get a B+, fruit gets an A, overall rating is an A (5 out of 5).
Let me show off mine too, if you don’t mind! So far, this is the biggest tomato of my season. I’ve been reading the forum for a long time, but only felt the urge to post now that I actually have something to show.

I’m growing 3 Medovyi plants from a commercial seed packet. Two of them have potato leaves (PL), and one has regular leaves (RL). Has anyone grown this? What leaf type is it actually supposed to have?
2018 season. Seeds from the company “Aelita”. Grown in a poly tunnel, but the sides were rolled practically all the way up. Vigorous, trouble-free vines. Set every single cluster. Delicious, meaty, pink beefsteaks. The seedlings were an A+—stout little trees with dark, regular foliage (RL). For me, it acted like a mid-late variety. I loved it in every regard… glad I really wanted this one! 😃
I also tried seeds from “Poisk”. That company really let me down 🤦♀️ They grew into tiny 1 ft (30cm) dwarf bushes with sour 3.5 oz (100g) fruits 🤬 Pulled them out by late June 😞 Total seed mix-up from Poisk.
So, the Aelita Medovyi is the true winner… here’s the beauty 👍
And here is a slice. Mmm… so good!
Grew this for the first time this year. One plant, pruned to 3 leaders (it pretty much forced my hand). Started out very promising. It survived May frosts, a freak June heatwave, and massive day/night temp swings. Produced well all the way to the greenhouse roof. Even pruned to 3 leaders, it’s a vigorous indet. Late season.
Took forever to color up. Unfortunately, mine had hard white cores/veins inside and tasted terrible 😕 It got potassium both via root drench and foliar spray just like the rest of my plants, but I guess it wasn’t enough for such massive fruit, high yields, and tough weather conditions. I want to try it again, but… 🤷♀️
Crazy how the same variety behaves so differently! For me, it was the exact opposite—a bunch of other varieties threw a fit, had white cores, or dropped blossoms, but this one pumped out fruit and tasted amazing.

My Medovyi is potato leaf (PL). Very strong plant, huge raspberry-pink fruits, oily/smooth flesh that is juicy but not watery. Actually performed like a mid-early variety for me.
Variety Summary: Medovyi (Honey)
- Plant Habit: Indeterminate, vigorous, and sprawling. Grows easily to 6 feet (1.8m) or more and can handle being pruned to multiple leaders.
- Leaf Type: Mostly Regular Leaf (RL), but unstable commercial seed packets occasionally produce Potato Leaf (PL) off-types.
- Yield: High. Most growers report excellent fruit set, with clusters rarely dropping blossoms even in tough conditions.
- Fruit Profile: Large to extra-large pink oblate beefsteaks. Average size is 10-18 oz (280-500g), with giant fruits frequently hitting 2+ lbs (1kg).
- Flavor: Highly rated for sweetness and balanced flavor. The flesh is dense, smooth, and meaty, perfect for fresh eating or processing.
