Quick Summary of Fioletovo-Malinovaya Baska
- 🌍 Origin: A Russian collector variety, originally popularized by seedsman V. Redko. The name translates to “Purple-Raspberry Baska”.
- 🌿 Plant Habit: Indeterminate. The plants are extremely vigorous, powerful, and healthy, easily growing over 1.5m (5 ft) tall outdoors in open ground. It handles aggressive multi-stem pruning (4-5 stems) effortlessly without dropping fruit size.
- 🍅 Fruit Characteristics: Dark raspberry/purple colored, beautifully pear-shaped tomatoes. They weigh between 80-150g (2.8-5.3 oz). They feature thick, meaty walls but still retain a lot of juice.
- 👅 Flavor: Highly rated. It has an excellent, perfectly balanced tomato flavor with a very pronounced sweetness.
- ⏳ Yield & Utility: A fantastic yielder with full, heavy trusses. It is a mid-early variety with an extended harvest window, fruiting continuously from late July well into autumn. Its thick walls make it perfect for canning and sauce, but it is sweet enough for fresh eating.
Seeds from V. Redko, growing it for the first time. Another pear-shaped variety that became a favorite this year. Indeterminate, growing two bushes outdoors (open ground). The bushes are powerful, healthy, tall, over 1.5 m (5 ft). The yield is excellent. I had many stems, didn’t count exactly, 4-5 for sure, yet the fruits were not small. The trusses are full and beautiful.
Fruits are 80-150 g (2.8-5.3 oz), dark raspberry color, beautiful pear shape, excellent balanced taste with a pronounced sweetness. The walls of the fruit are thick, yet it’s a juicy little tomato. I think it will suit all types of culinary processing, and it’s also good just to eat fresh. Mid-early ripening time, extended fruiting, started ripening in late July, and right now there are still many fruits ripening on the bushes.
