Rozda Tomato Review: A Juicy Red Heirloom Plum

Rate this

Quick Summary of Rozda

  • 🌍 Origin: An excellent heirloom variety that gained popularity through seed-sharing networks in Ukraine and Russia.
  • 🌿 Plant Habit: Indeterminate (tall vining). Highly productive. Grows very well in greenhouses when pruned to 2 stems.
  • 🍅 Fruit Characteristics: Large, red, elongated tomatoes. The shape can vary slightly on the same bush—ranging from classic “plum” shapes to slightly wider, egg-shaped (ovoid) fruits. Average weight is around 150-200 g (5.3-7 oz), though occasional mega-blooms can produce fruits up to 500 g (1.1 lbs).
  • 👅 Flavor & Texture: Unlike many commercial “plum” or paste tomatoes that tend to be hard and dry, Rozda is notably juicy, meaty, and very flavorful. It is not overly dense, making it a great all-purpose tomato for both fresh eating and processing.

I grew Rozda in 2013 (seeds were from Natasha in Moscow, back from the old forum). It is a tall, indeterminate variety. The fruits are large red plums up to 200 g (7 oz). Very productive.

It doesn’t really look much like a plum tomato in the pictures.

Nadya, Elena Danko and I discussed this before I added the variety to the catalog here. Her Rozda looked exactly the same.

The fruits of Rozda are not perfectly round; they are slightly elongated. And they vary on the bush—some are more elongated, some are less. 🙂 Maybe Lena will upload her photos so we can compare. I received the seeds with this exact description. What is the proper term for this fruit shape?

I dug up my photos! 🙂 I received the Rozda variety from our Toma in Priluki (Ukraine). I found very good reviews about it on Ukrainian forums, so I decided to plant it.

It is an indeterminate, highly productive variety. The fruits are red plums up to 200 g (7 oz), though I had some specimens that were a bit larger. They are juicy and quite meaty, but not overly dense or hard. I really liked the variety.

My seeds were from Elena Danko! :thx:

I absolutely loved this variety! It is tall (indeterminate), grew in the greenhouse pruned to 2 stems. The fruits are red, egg-shaped (ovoid), juicy, and very delicious! :yep: :niam: The average weight was 150-200 g (5.3-7 oz), but one fruit reached a massive 500 g (1.1 lbs)!
