Quick Summary of Ukrainian Pink Giant

Interesting, I have a Giant too, but it’s not pink.

Almost all of my pink giants cracked/split on the vine.
Here is my “Rozovyi Velikan” (Pink Giant), absolutely the best tomato out of all the old heirloom varieties. 🙂
This year it was a little smaller than usual. But overall, for us, it is the most reliable variety. No matter the weather, it is highly productive and very tasty. Practically every courtyard/village has its own local strain of it. You can literally go to the farmers market, buy a delicious tomato, save the seeds, and grow it—there are so many variations of it! 🙂 It is especially delicious when grown in southern regions.

Natasha, “Giant of Ukraine” is a specific strain/variation of this variety. I sent some seeds in a packet labeled “Ukrainian Giant”. There are many names for them, but basically, they are all variations of the “Rozovyi Velikan” (Pink Giant). Someone from a different region of Ukraine might call it by a different name, there are so many variations!
I forgot about the Red Giant. It appeared here relatively recently. But in this thread, we are talking about the old heirloom variety, back from when it was called “Rozovyi Velikan” or “Rozhevyi Veleten” (in Ukrainian). Calling it simply “Giant” is more of a modern commercial name to make it understandable.
I just bought my Giant a week ago, so my testing of it is still ahead. And mine is red! I don’t know if they had a pink one. Here is some information I found in an article about the Pink Giant:
“Even in greenhouse conditions, bushes can reach 1.5 meters (5 ft). Usually, fruits weigh 200-300 grams (7-10.5 oz), but under highly favorable conditions, these tomatoes can reach a weight of 2 kg (4.4 lbs)! There aren’t many on the bush: usually 2-4 tomatoes, rarely 5. One bush typically yields 2.5-3 kg (5.5-6.6 lbs).”
This year I planted the “Ukrainian Giant” (got the seeds from Svetik in Ukraine). Even though mine didn’t grow into an absolute giant, it was delicious :niam: and productive. I will definitely plant it again next year! :yep:

Ah, I see! I just noticed the difference. This thread is about the Pink Giant from Ukraine, while what I have is the Ukrainian Giant (red). 🙂
I have so many of these Giants now: White, Black, Lemon, Orange, Pink, Winner, Leningrad… I was just missing the Ukrainian one. I’m sure I’ll end up finding even more varieties! ???
I grew the Ukrainian Pink Giant (seeds from Angelina) here in the Moscow region.
It was quite surprised by our northern weather! 😀 The yield was average for me, but the taste and shape were absolutely top-notch! :niam: :hey:
