Quick Summary of Solntse Severa (Sun of the North)

- 🧐 The Naming Irony: As forum growers quickly point out, the name is quite misleading! One would expect a “Northern Sun” to be a yellow or orange tomato growing on a frail, cold-tolerant bush. Instead, it is a massive, red beefsteak growing on a highly vigorous, southern-style vine.
- 🌿 Plant Habit: Indeterminate (tall). The bush is very powerful and vigorous. It performs exceptionally well in a greenhouse when trained to 2 stems. Because of its vigor, growers recommend “topping” it (pinching off the growing tip) late in the season so it finishes ripening its fruit.
- 🍅 Fruit Characteristics: Classic red beefsteaks. They are large, regularly reaching up to 500g (1.1 lbs). Standout trait: Unlike many varieties that produce smaller fruits at the top of the plant, this variety maintains its massive fruit size along the entire height of the vine.

Indeterminate large-fruited variety, grew in the greenhouse, the bush is vigorous, I trained it to 2 stems. Productive, beefsteak fruit shape with a good tomato flavor, weighing up to 500 g (1.1 lbs). There were no problems with fruit set. It maintains its large fruit size along the entire height of the bush.

Nadezhda, your seeds are from Kolyakov, but where did he get them from?
Is the sun in the north red? The variety is good, but it looks like a southern one, and the name is confusing… I expected to see yellow fruits on a frail (wispy) plant…
Zulfiya, yes, seeds from Kolyakov. Where he got them from is a mystery wrapped in darkness 😄 ElenaN tried to find out the origin of some variety from him (I don’t remember exactly which one), as a result, they had a falling out, but he still didn’t reveal his military secret 😄
I haven’t been to the north, so I don’t know what the sun is like there 😉

Solntse Severa (Sun North).
Seeds from Kolyakov.
Indet.
Grew in the greenhouse, vigorous bush, trained to 2 stems.
At a height of 2 m (6.5 ft) it was topped (growing tip pinched off).
Yield – good, ripening time – mid-season.
Taste – very good with a little acidity.
One of the best red tomatoes for taste this year!
I will plant it constantly.

I was also looking for info on this variety… but whether it’s truth or fiction… who knows. The main thing is that it seems to be a good tomato.
