📌 Quick Summary (TL;DR): Yellow Cherry Potato Leaf
- 🌍 Origin: A highly sought-after heirloom/collector’s variety circulating among Eastern European growers. Not typically available in commercial seed catalogs.
- 🌿 Plant Habit: Indeterminate (tall). Features distinctive, large potato-leaf (PL) foliage. A very vigorous and resilient plant that produces right up until the first heavy frosts.
- 🍅 Fruit Characteristics: Bright yellow cherry tomatoes borne on large trusses. They are extremely dense and firm.
- 👅 Flavor & Texture: Universally praised as one of the sweetest cherry tomatoes in existence (often rated a 5+++). The texture is unique: the skin and flesh are so firm that they literally “crunch” or “snap” when you bite into them, like hard candy.
- 🥫 Best Uses: Exceptional for fresh snacking, and holds its shape perfectly when canned whole. Excellent post-harvest shelf life.
Yellow Cherry – an absolutely stunning find from the summer of 2012… A strong indet with large potato-type leaves, capable of growing in a greenhouse right up until the freezing cold hits… It forms huge trusses of sweet, dense fruits… they are so dense that they crunch like hard candies when you bite into them! When canned in jars, these fruits look like little amber drops… The sweetness of the fruits is a 5+++ rating…

I have never tasted anything sweeter. If only it were just a little bit bigger in size 😉, it would be absolutely priceless!!! 👍 I still have some fresh ones sitting at home right now, and their taste hasn’t changed or deteriorated at all!
I completely agree. These are the sweetest cherry tomatoes I have ever tasted. Productive, crunchy, just absolutely incomparable. Plus, they store exceptionally well post-harvest.
I can’t find this for sale anywhere. Where do you buy these seeds in Ukraine?
- The “Crunch” Factor: Multiple growers mentioned that these tomatoes “crunch like candy.” While most beefsteaks are prized for being soft and melting, cherry tomatoes are often bred for a firm, thick skin that produces a satisfying “snap” or “pop” when you bite into them. This dense texture is also what allows them to store on the kitchen counter for weeks without going soft!
