Quick Summary of Chervone Solntse (Red Sun)
- 🌍 Origin: A wonderful heirloom variety. The name translates from Ukrainian/Old Slavic as “Red Sun”.
- 🌿 Plant Habit: Indeterminate (tall). Forms a strong, sturdy bush that performs well in greenhouse environments, though it can drop some blossoms in extreme heat.
- 🍅 Fruit Characteristics: Large, deep-red beefsteaks. They are oblate (flattened-round) with distinctive ribbed shoulders. The fruits are very solid and dense, growing up to 400 g (14 oz).
- 👅 Flavor Profile: Highly praised for its classic, old-fashioned tomato flavor. Perfectly balanced between sweet and tart, with no unusual “exotic” notes—just a pure, rich, real tomato taste.

Chervone Solntse (Red Sun), indeterminate, sturdy bush, fruits up to 400 g (14 oz). Deep, saturated red color, oblate (flattened-round) shape, ribbed shoulders, solid, and very meaty.
This year, it didn’t set every single truss due to the extreme heat. Despite this, I will plant more of it next year because it is one of the very few varieties that showed excellent taste qualities in my usually bland-tasting greenhouse. It has a true, perfectly balanced tomato flavor without any weird exotic notes.
