Share your rating
🍅 Quick take: Orenburgskie (Orenburg) is an indeterminate, surprisingly early Russian pink beefsteak that yields fruits up to 14 oz (400 g). Growers praise it for its absolute ruggedness—surviving severe root damage, setting fruit continuously without dropping blossoms, and showing top-tier resistance to leaf mold (Cladosporium). It produces heavily right up until hard frost. Full summary ↓

Scored this strain from Petrov. His catalog description is pretty brief: “tall, up to 14 oz (400 g)” 😄. It performed beautifully for me. It was one of the earliest to start ripening. It even survived some severe wilting after a shrew chewed up its roots, bounced right back, and kept pumping out fruit right up to the end. I was still harvesting in early October. Also, it was one of the very last vines to succumb to leaf mold.

Tatyana, are the Orenburg tomatoes pink? Can you give us a rundown on the flavor and texture? Got any sliced photos?

I grew this one this season and it absolutely blew me away. It set every single truss, didn’t drop a single blossom, and was one of the very first to ripen. Really sweet flavor, though mine didn’t quite hit that 14 oz (400 g) mark. Huge shoutout to Tatyana (Tomatanya) for the seeds!

This one is permanently earning a spot in my garden.

Full Summary: Plant, Yield, Taste, and Vigor

  • 🌿 Plant Vigor: A tall, robust indeterminate variety that is exceptionally resilient. One grower noted it survived significant root damage from pests and fully recovered to finish out the season.
  • 📈 Yield & Disease Resistance: An absolute workhorse. It sets fruit flawlessly without skipping trusses or dropping blossoms, even in poor conditions. It is notably early for a beefsteak and produces continuously until pulled in October. It also boasts elite resistance to leaf mold (Cladosporium), staying green long after other greenhouse plants have defoliated.
  • 👅 Taste & Looks: Produces pink, sweet beefsteaks. While the original description claims weights up to 14 oz (400 g), some growers find it stays a bit smaller, though the excellent flavor entirely makes up for it.
