Super Balcony Orange Tomato Review

Quick Summary of Super Balcony Orange (Superbalkonnyi Oranzhevyi)

  • 🌍 Origin & Name: Sourced from the collection of Ukrainian tomato breeder Denis Terentyev. The name translates to “Super Balcony Orange”.
  • 🌿 Plant Habit (The Paradox): Despite the word “Balcony” in its name, which usually implies a tiny micro-dwarf, this variety is actually an indeterminate (tall) vine! The name likely refers to its ability to yield heavily in confined spaces and large pots/containers on loggias or balconies, provided it has a trellis to climb.
  • 🍅 Fruit Characteristics: Bright orange, perfectly round, and very uniform cocktail-sized tomatoes. The average weight is 50-60 grams (1.8-2 oz). The fruits are firm and dense.
  • 👅 Flavor & Culinary Use: The flesh is genuinely sweet without exaggeration. Due to their uniform size, firmness, and sweetness, they are considered absolutely perfect for whole-fruit canning—though growers note they are so tasty they often get eaten fresh before they ever make it to the canning jars!
  • Maturity: Mid-season ripening.

I am quoting the name of the variety exactly as it is… I received the seeds with this exact name from a Ukrainian collector seven years ago… And why didn’t I want to test it out sooner! 📝
This variety truly deserves attention!

Indeterminate, highly productive variety with an abundance of orange fruits – so uniform, round, and firm… And the flesh is sweet, without any exaggeration 😋 For whole-fruit canning, this is the most suitable option! But… this year, all the fruits were eaten before they could be canned 🙂

I grew it in a greenhouse, pruned to 3 stems, and it ripened right on the branches… Mid-season maturity.

Sasha, Natasha literally just wrote that they devoured all the tomatoes! 😃 😃 😃 They didn’t survive long enough to make it into the catalog for seed saving! 😛

Girls, why is it called “Super Balcony”? Can it be grown indoors?

Yulia, I think this variety can be successfully grown on balconies (loggias) in large planters or pots. The name of the variety likely reflects its ability to give a full yield even in a confined space.

This variety is from the collection of Ukrainian breeder Denis Terentyev.
I only grew it in the greenhouse – it ripened completely on the branches, and it was very productive that year.
The fruits are all uniform, not huge, and very firm. I really want to repeat it this year!

Natalya, thank you for the answer! It’s already growing for me, Asya sent me the seeds. At first, I thought it was an indoor determinate variety (micro-dwarf) 😳, which is why I sowed it. Now, it means I’ll have to gradually increase its pot volume since it’s going to get big.
