Beefsteak Albi Tomato Review: Minusinsk Heirloom

Rate this

📌 Quick Summary (TL;DR): Beefsteak Albi

  • 🌍 Origin: A famous giant heirloom from Russia. This variety is a known champion at the prestigious annual “Minusinsk Tomato Champion” festival in Siberia, where growers compete to raise the heaviest tomatoes in the country.
  • 🌿 Plant Habit: Indeterminate. An absolute beast of a plant. Growers describe it as growing “like a tree,” requiring heavy-duty stakes and cages to prevent the plant from collapsing under its own weight.
  • 🍅 Fruit Characteristics: Bright red, classic beefsteaks. They are massive, easily reaching 2.2 lbs (1 kg). In competition, this variety has produced single fruits weighing over 6.2 lbs (2.8 kg)!
  • 👅 Flavor & Texture: Dense, incredibly meaty, and very aromatic with a low seed count. A classic, rich old-fashioned tomato flavor.
  • Yield & Maturity: A late-season variety. Yields are described as “off the charts,” but because it takes so long to ripen, growers in shorter climates may need a greenhouse to see its full potential.

A massively powerful plant, grows like a tree with unbelievable yields.

The fruits are red, weighing up to 2.2 lbs (1 kg) and more. Meaty, very few seeds, and delicious.

Possibly the most productive variety I’ve ever grown.

The last photo shows its true color.

This year, this variety was the winner of the Minusinsk Tomato Day competition.

A beautiful variety, all the fruits are large and there are a ton of them. Started ripening late for me, in September.
