Belarusian Heart (Belorusskoe Serdtse) Heirloom Tomato Review

Rate this

📌 Quick Summary (TL;DR): Belorusskoe Serdtse (Belarusian Heart)

  • 🌍 Origin & History: A fantastic heirloom with a verified history! In 2006, a tomato grower named Andrey from Minsk (Belarus) bought a massive 900g (2 lb) tomato from an elderly woman at a local market. She had grown it for years but didn’t know the name. After growing it out and stabilizing it in his greenhouse, Andrey named it “Belorusskoe Serdtse” (Belarusian Heart) and shared the seeds via trades with growers in the USA, Canada, and Germany.
  • 🌿 Plant Habit: Indeterminate (tall) and extremely vigorous. Can easily top 6.5 ft (2 m). Growers note it grows so aggressively you might need a step stool to tie the tops, even when grown outside in the garden!
  • 🍅 Fruit Characteristics: Classic red, oval-heart shaped tomatoes. Very large, typically ranging from 600g to 900g (1.3 to 2 lbs).
  • 👅 Flavor: Amazing, classic tomato flavor with a perfect balance of sweetness and acidity. The flesh is aromatic, meaty, buttery, and very juicy.
  • ⏳ Maturity & Yield: Mid-season. Notably unfussy for an oxheart variety. It is highly praised for setting fruit on every single truss without dropping blossoms, producing heavily right up until the first frost.

Mid-season, tall indeterminate (over 2 meters / 6.5 ft), high-yielding, large-fruited variety. The fruits are red hearts. The taste is amazing, the flesh is aromatic, buttery, and juicy.

How is it in terms of ripening time?

One of the absolute best varieties! In terms of taste, yield, and disease resistance. It’s mid-season and keeps producing right up until frost. The flavor has sweetness, tartness, and a great aroma. 😋😋😋

Looking at the photos, I get the feeling it sets fruit without skipping any blossoms! Or am I mistaken? Or are the trusses just really full! 😊

It was one of the very few varieties that didn’t drop a single blossom and set fruit perfectly for me in 2016.

I really loved this variety. Thanks to Larisa (larina) for the seeds! 🙏 It was the tastiest and largest one this season. The plant was nearly 2m (6.5 ft) tall, mid-season, and it set fruit on every truss without skipping.

Hello everyone.

Finally found the time to register on your forum!)

I actually bought a massive fruit of this variety back in 2006 at a market here in Minsk from an elderly woman. Since she didn’t know the name but had been growing it herself for a long time, I named it Belorusskoe Serdtse (Belarusian Heart) after growing it in my greenhouse for a few years. That original fruit weighed around 900g (about 2 lbs).

The variety is truly wonderful—tasty, productive, unfussy (which is rare for oxheart tomatoes), and produces large fruit.

I’m glad that after so many years of sending it out in seed trades only to America, Canada, and Germany, the seeds have finally made their way into Russia! 🙂

Wow, no way! Belorusskoe Serdtse has made quite the journey! 😲 My seeds actually came to me from Lithuania, thanks to Larisa (larina)! 🌷

An excellent oxheart tomato variety. It perfectly combines great yield, beautiful fruit shape, and excellent taste. In my greenhouse, it turned out to be mid-season and grew up to 2 meters (6.5 ft) tall.

Hey tomato friends, tell me, does this heart have thin skin? With “Budenovka”, for example, you can’t even slightly scratch the skin… it immediately starts to spoil. Even though I really love both Budenovka and Batyanya. Is it the same story with Belarusian Heart?

Belorusskoe Serdtse. A wonderful, productive variety, indeterminate. The fruits are large, up to 600g (1.3 lbs), oval-heart shaped, red, smooth, and very tasty! 👍 Seeds were from @ya_lubov. 🙏

I grew Belorusskoe Serdtse for the first time in the summer of 2021. This tomato really stood out for its unbridled growth—I seriously felt like hanging kettlebells on it to slow it down! 😂 I even had to bring a stool out just to tie the tops, and this was outside in the open garden. The fruits are a fiery red color, juicy, with a classic tomato flavor. When the rainy season hit in August, they all started cracking at once, so they “transitioned” into tomato juice, which we used to can other tomatoes (making the contents of those jars an order of magnitude tastier). 🙂
