Quick Summary of Big Yellow Simpson
- 🌍 Origin: A classic heirloom tomato. Often cataloged in seed databases (like Tatiana’s TOMATObase) as Big Yellow, Simpson.
- 🌿 Plant Habit: Indeterminate. Can be grown successfully both in open ground and in greenhouses. Typically pruned to 2 stems for the best balance of fruit size and yield. Mid-season to mid-late.
- 🍅 Fruit Characteristics: Large, beautiful orange to yellow-orange beefsteaks. Fruits are very meaty, nearly seedless, and frequently reach up to 14 oz (400 g) in weight. An excellent keeper that retains its firm texture and doesn’t turn mushy.
- 👅 Flavor Profile: Most growers praise it for its rich, sweet, and juicy flavor. However, depending on soil and weather conditions, it can occasionally develop a more pronounced, punchy sweet-and-sour profile.

Out of the orange varieties this year, Simpson was my favorite! 👍 Sweet, meaty, and juicy.
Wow! On my computer screen, the rim on top looks golden, just like a crown! 😄
Lidia, does it have stripes? Or is it just a reflection?
There are no stripes there. 👍 It must just be the way the light is hitting it.
Could you please tell me more details… Height, yield, etc.
Am I the only one who sees a sad little face in the top photo? I bought the seeds, I am going to plant it.
