📌 Quick Summary (TL;DR): Bochka Meda (Barrel of Honey)
- 🌍 Origin: A fantastic commercial variety from Russia. The name translates to “Barrel of Honey,” which perfectly describes both its vibrant color and its intense sweetness.
- 🌿 Plant Habit: Indeterminate (tall). The plant grows vigorous, tall, and quite wide/bushy, requiring good support.
- 🍅 Fruit Characteristics: Bright orange, oblate beefsteaks. They are large, consistently weighing 10-19 oz (300-550g). The flesh is completely solid, with a highly prized “buttery” or dense gel-like texture and very few seeds.
- 👅 Flavor: Top-tier. Incredibly sweet, rich, and aromatic. Never bland. It holds together perfectly when sliced without leaking juice everywhere.
- ⏳ Yield: High-yielding, mid-season variety.
Mid-season, large-fruited, indeterminate, high-yielding variety. The fruits are bright orange, oblate, aromatic, with a very good, sweet flavor. They are meaty, weighing up to 14 oz (400 grams). The flesh is dense, and it doesn’t fall apart or run when sliced, making it a great all-purpose tomato. They are amazing in salads, but you can confidently use them for canning in wedges, and the smaller fruits from the upper trusses can even be canned whole. Very few seeds inside. I really loved this variety.
The seeds came from this commercial packet:
Continuation.

I loved it. Honestly, I’m just so happy—I have finally found *my* perfect orange tomato. I finally don’t have to look for any other orange or yellow varieties anymore. I’ve found my hero.
I am happy with absolutely everything: the size, and especially the taste—the whole flavor balance is just right for me. It’s meaty with a wonderful buttery texture.
The plant is tall and wide.
And the taste?
Oksana, 😂. They wrote above that it is very good.

We’ll assume it’s sweet. Just look at how deeply orange it is…
Out of all my yellow/orange varieties, this one is the absolute best in taste. And what a beauty! An even, dark yellow-orange color without any green shoulders or veins; it’s the exact same color inside and out. The texture is dense and gel-like, very buttery when sliced. It doesn’t produce an excess of seeds, but just enough to save. You don’t have to go chasing after them, hacking the tomato into a thousand pieces.
On top of all that, it has good yields! I highly recommend this variety.
Bochka Meda – indeterminate.
Large fruits of a bright orange color. Fruit weight is 10.5+ oz (300+ g). The flesh is buttery on the cut, firm but with plenty of juicy moisture. The flavor is great, not bland at all.
