Kitayskiy Rozovyi (Chinese Pink) Tomato Review & Photos

Share your rating
🍅 Quick take: Kitayskiy Rozovyi (Chinese Pink) is an early-season pink tomato with a highly mixed reputation. It is incredibly rugged, capable of setting fruit in poor conditions when other varieties drop their blossoms. However, growers report disappointing fruit quality: the tomatoes range wildly in size from 1.5 oz to 9 oz (50-250 g), lack sweetness, and have large seeds with very watery locules. Furthermore, seeds are commonly sold by the SeDeK company, leading to unpredictable results. Full summary ↓

And here is what came out of the packet labeled “Kitayskiy Rozovyi” (Chinese Pink). Grown outdoors, they just grew everywhere. I totally fell for the picture on the packet, but in reality, it’s way worse than the description.

The absolute max weight was 8.8 oz (250 g), but I had some as small as 1.7 oz (50 g). The flavor is sweet and sour, definitely not that sugary meaty texture, the seeds are huge, and the seed locules are super watery. I didn’t like them at all.

Were the seeds from SeDeK by any chance? I actually have this one on my list for my early seed starting.

Honestly, I couldn’t tell you right now. This was back in 2011. But generally speaking, I try my absolute best to avoid buying SeDeK seeds.

Marisha, I’m afraid it probably was a SeDeK packet. Look:

Mine is from SeDeK, but the packet looks a little different.

Different batches. I think my seeds are from an older lot. And honestly, completely different tomatoes could easily grow out of those two packets.

I think I’ll try planting just 2 bushes.

My mom grew it this year from the exact same packet as yours, Meri (the photos on the packets are identical anyway). It was early and extremely rugged. She grew it in total spartan conditions and it matched the description perfectly. I saw it myself when it was putting on size.

Plus, right when all the other varieties were dropping blossoms because of the weather, this one held on just fine. I just totally forgot to ask her how it actually tasted later on…

Thanks Sweet! I’m going to start these seeds a bit earlier than the rest of my varieties just to see exactly how early it really is.

Full Summary: Plant, Yield, Taste and Vigor

  • 🌿 Plant: An early-season variety meant for outdoor growing. Produces pink fruits that are highly variable in size, ranging from small 1.7 oz (50 g) fruits up to 8.8 oz (250 g) slicers.
  • 📈 Yield: Reliable, largely because it refuses to quit. It sets fruit well early in the season.
  • 👅 Taste & Texture: Poor to average. Growers complain about a basic sweet-and-sour taste, lack of meaty texture, large seeds, and very watery seed locules.
  • 🛡️ Vigor & Resilience: Its strongest trait. It thrives in “spartan conditions” (neglect, poor soil, bad weather) and successfully sets fruit while other varieties are suffering from blossom drop.
