Quick Summary of Ekkert Polskiy (Eckert Polish)
- 🌍 Origin: A wonderful heirloom tomato of Polish origin, highly valued in Eastern European and Russian gardening communities.
- 🌿 Plant Habit: Indeterminate (vining) and grows to about 1.6 meters (5.2 ft) tall in a greenhouse.
- 🍅 Fruit Characteristics: Large pink beefsteaks that are slightly ribbed. Some growers report smaller average sizes around 150g (5.3 oz), while others get classic large slicers. The cross-section is extremely meaty and beautiful, sometimes resembling a bicolor tomato.
- 👅 Flavor: Excellent, sweet, and meaty. A top-tier slicing variety for fresh eating.
- ⏳ Maturity: Mid-season to late season.
- 💡 Pro Tip: It can tolerate some shade, but for maximum yield, make sure to plant it in a sunny spot in the greenhouse or open garden.
Eckert Polish (Ekkert Polskiy)
Indeterminate, mid-season slicer variety. The fruits are large pink beefsteaks, slightly ribbed, with excellent sweet taste. I got a low yield, but it was growing in the shade in the greenhouse. The seeds were from T. Kushnareva (Tatiana’s TOMATObase).

Lena, I was looking at your photo report for 2017, and you have these varieties there:
- Curry, you rated its taste 4.9, although you only tried it counter-ripened (ripened off the vine).
- Henry’s Biggie with a taste rating of 4.85-4.9.
- Moya with a rating of 4.8-5.0.
- Saltanat with a rating of 4.7-5.0.
I don’t know if I can ask a question in this thread? Did you eventually manage to try Curry fully vine-ripened? I couldn’t find threads with descriptions of those varieties on the forum. Which of the listed varieties, including Eckert from this thread, has the sweetest and richest flavor?
Tanya, Saltanat is the sweetest of them all, but it isn’t very productive. I did try Curry vine-ripened later, but for some reason, the taste wasn’t memorable anymore. I guess the high rating didn’t hold up in the end.
