Growers’ Notes and Photos (USDA Zones 4-5 Experience)
Seems like a lot of folks grew this variety, but I couldn’t find it in the catalog.
I grew mine outdoors. Mid-sized plant, about 3 ft (1 m) tall, mid-season (maybe even mid-late). Fruits are oval-shaped, looking exactly like a goose egg in both size and shape, very smooth. They stay green but get covered in thick dark green and pink streaks, weighing 3.5-5.3 oz (100-150 g).
Wasn’t blown away by the flavor, to be honest. Maybe I should’ve left them on the vine longer, but I had to pick them because they started splitting.

I got my seeds for this variety from Kulik. My tomatoes were so incredibly sweet that it felt like I wasn’t even eating a tomato. It lacked that classic tomato bite entirely, just pure sweetness. Really delicious.
The ones I kept on the counter for a long time didn’t rot at all. They just shriveled up, wrinkled, and got even sweeter.

Larisa, where did you grow them to get that kind of sweetness? In the greenhouse or outdoors?

Grew them in the greenhouse in a really good spot. But I honestly don’t think it’s just about the growing conditions. Far from all of my tomatoes turn out sweet. My black varieties, for example, end up totally bland no matter where I plant them.
Full Summary: Plant Habit, Taste, and Yields
- 🌿 Plant & Foliage: Mid-sized plants, reaching about 3 ft (1 m) tall. Can be successfully grown both in open ground and greenhouses.
- 🍅 Fruit Appearance & Size: Visually unique. The fruits are oval and sized like a goose egg, weighing around 3.5-5.3 oz (100-150 g). The skin remains green when ripe, heavily painted with dark green and pink stripes/blushes.
- 👅 Taste: Opinions varied heavily based on growing conditions and picking time. One grower who picked early due to splitting found the flavor lacking. Another greenhouse grower reported that it was overwhelmingly sweet, lacking traditional tomato acidity, and tasting almost like candy.
- 📈 Storage & Cracking: Like many thin-skinned sweet varieties, it can be crack-prone outdoors in wet weather. However, if kept indoors, it boasts an incredible shelf life — it doesn’t rot, but instead shrivels up and dries down, concentrating the sugars even further.
The “Kozula” series comes from Anna Kozula, a well-known Polish tomato breeder who created dozens of highly sought-after crosses (often numbered). “Zielone” is simply Polish for green. In the thread, Larisa mentions getting seeds from “Kulik”—this refers to Alexey Kulik, a prominent Ukrainian heirloom seed collector and vendor whose catalog is widely distributed across Eastern European gardening circles.
