🍅 Quick take: Luch (which translates to “Ray” or “Beam”) is an early-season, determinate paste tomato. It is highly praised for being extremely low-maintenance—thriving outdoors with zero pruning required. The compact bush produces very thick-walled, meaty, elongated tomatoes that are noticeably sweet. Because it ripens so early and handles cold well, it is a favorite for growers in harsh, short-season northern climates. Full summary ↓
Growers’ Notes and Photos (USDA Zones 4-5 Experience)
Just want to chime in and say that out in the open garden, this is one of the earliest to ripen for me. Going into my third year growing it. I don’t pinch suckers at all, and the bush stays under 2.5 ft (70 cm) but gets absolutely smothered in trusses.
Marina up in Kirov was raving about Luch too, so it clearly performs great in northern climates.
