Growers’ Notes and Photos (USDA Zones 4-7 Experience)
Mid-season, tall indeterminate vine. Fruits are broad, flattened-round pink beefsteaks, very meaty, delicious, and weighing up to 2.2 lbs (1 kg) and even larger. Very uniform and fragrant.
Zero disease issues all season long. I trained it to a single stem, but I reckon it could handle two leaders easily.
Outdoors in open ground, it behaved more like a semi-determinate. Oblate, pink. Kept it to a single leader.
Here’s the weird part: each plant set exactly one single tomato, across all 5 plants in the row! The fruits ran about 10.5 oz (300 g) each. Saved seed from them anyway. Gonna give it another run just to see, maybe under different summer weather it’ll perform better.

Hey there, did you ever manage to get a better crop out of Napa Giant? My seedlings of it were hands down the strongest, most vigorous in the entire flat. Now you’ve got me wondering what to expect!
Full Summary: Plant Vigour, Yield and Size Potential
- 🌿 Plant & Heritage: American heirloom developed in California’s Napa Valley. Characterized by vigorous seedling growth and sturdy indeterminate vines. In exposed open-ground beds subjected to harsh heat or cool spells, it can stay shorter, acting more like a semi-determinate.
- 📈 Size Potential & Setting: Capable of throwing exhibition-sized pink beefsteaks weighing over 2.2 lbs (1 kg) when pruned to one or two leaders under protected conditions. However, open-ground trials show it can suffer from severe blossom drop if stressed, setting only one solitary fruit per plant.
- 👅 Flavor Profile: Outstanding aroma, dense meaty flesh, and rich old-school heirloom flavor with solid sweetness.
- 🌎 Who Reviewed It: Experienced tomato grower Angelina alongside members Melisssa (Zone 6) and Vlad-69 (Zone 4).
