First year running Petit Chocolat. Another true “mini-beefsteak” style cherry (similar build to Yablonelistnyi): multi-locular interior chambers, nicely balanced sweet-tart flavor, rated a solid 4.5 out of 5 on taste. Easily out-yielded Yablonelistnyi.

Rain Crack Resistance, Sucker Vigor, and Blight Notes

One vine was tucked under a shelter cover and held fruit all the way through late September. The outdoor open-ground vine had to be pulled early once late blight moved in, but surprisingly, the outdoor plant actually pumped out a heavier overall harvest before going down. Maturity ranks right around mid-season.

These cherries are firm and tough: zero splitting from rain, not a single cracked fruit. Never got around to canning any because we scarfed them all down fresh right off the vine.

We didn’t prune a single sucker, and even the lowest side shoots right near the soil line fruited heavily. Seeds were purchased locally over here.
