📌 Quick Summary (TL;DR): Strawberry Sergeant
- 🌍 Origin: Bred by Russian breeder Sofia Saakova. It is a cross between Mrs. Schlaubaugh’s Famous Strawberry and Sgt. Pepper’s. The Russian name is “Klubnichniy Serzhant”.
- 🌿 Plant Habit: Indeterminate (tall), mid-season. The plants are quite sturdy and strong.
- 🍅 Fruit Characteristics: Pink fruits with dark anthocyanin splashes on the shoulders (the dark color develops best when exposed to direct sunlight). They are large, typically weighing 10-14 oz (300-400 g). Note: This variety is still segregating, so you might occasionally get a plant with no antho.
- 👅 Flavor: Absolutely phenomenal. Very sweet, meaty, and dense flesh. One grower rated it as the #1 best-tasting tomato out of 87 varieties grown that season.
Bred by Sofia Saakova. The parents are Mrs. Schlaubaugh’s Famous Strawberry + Sgt. Pepper’s. Indeterminate, mid-season, the plant is quite sturdy. The fruits are pink with slight antho splashes coming down from the stem when grown on the sunny side. Fruits weigh around 10-14 oz (300-400 g). They are extremely tasty, sweet, with a very dense and meaty flesh. Heavy yielder.
In 2025, this variety took the #1 spot for best taste out of the 87 varieties I grew. This is how it turned out for me in terms of shape and color. The fruit weights were mostly right around 10-11 oz (300 g). I grew two plants, and the variety segregated. The second plant had no anthocyanin at all, and it really fell short on flavor compared to the first. I saved seeds from the good one, and I will be repeating it next season. We’ll see if it holds onto that amazing flavor and what happens with the genetics next.
