4/5 - (1 vote)

Quick Summary of Shokoladnaya Amazonka (Chocolate Amazon)

  • 🌍 Origin: A Russian heirloom variety widely circulated among prominent private seed collectors (such as Popenko and Redko). The name translates to “Chocolate Amazon”.
  • 🌿 Plant Habit: Indeterminate, though some growers describe it as medium-tall, reaching about 1.5 m (5 ft) in greenhouses. The plant is sturdy and robust, performing best when pruned to 2 or 3 stems. It requires minimal maintenance.
  • 🍅 Fruit Characteristics: Large, dark brown-mahogany (chocolate) beefsteaks. Some growers report a slight pear or boat shape. Average weight is 200–250 g (7–9 oz). The flesh is very firm and dense.
  • 👅 Flavor: A classic, rich tomato flavor. Sweetness levels can vary depending on growing conditions and sun exposure.
  • Maturity & Yield: Mid-early to mid-season. It sets its lower trusses extremely well and is considered one of the highest yielders in its category.

Chocolate Amazon in the catalog on the old forum.

For some reason, I couldn’t find this wonderful variety from Natalya Yaroslavna in our current catalog. If it is still in the catalog, I ask the moderator to merge my post into the thread about this variety.

Indeterminate, mid-season, low-maintenance variety. The fruits are very beautiful, with a good classic tomato taste. The yield is good 👍

The variety is indeed very worthy! I have been growing it for several years now… I tried pruning it to both 2 and 3 stems — the plant is sturdy, quite productive, and the fruits are large with firm flesh.

I found a description of this variety looking like this. Tell me, please, are “Viagra” and “Chocolate Amazon” the same variety?

Chocolate Amazon
Tomato “Viagra” – from a medical point of view, the fruits of this variety are more of a medicine than a vegetable, because they are distinguished by a much higher (3-4 times higher than a regular tomato) lycopene content. The fruits are brown, with good taste qualities.

No, Viagra doesn’t resemble Amazon at all, they are different varieties 😉

I think Viagra should be in the catalog somewhere 🤫

The variety is really good, both in color and taste, but mine had a slightly pear-shaped form.

My seeds were from Popenko (a well-known Russian collector). Medium-tall 1.5 m (5 ft), mid-early, it set the lower trusses very well, the tomatoes were not huge, about 200-250 grams (7-9 oz). It is a good variety, but it was missing something for me. It didn’t turn out very sweet.

I planted Amazon in 2016. Seeds were from Redko. In terms of yield, it was one of the best varieties of the season. The taste was also very worthy.
