Mamina Lyubov (Mom’s Love Tomato) Review & Photos

Share your rating
🍅 Quick take: Mom’s Love (Mamina Lyubov) is a vigorous, highly productive indeterminate red beefsteak from Russia. Treasured for its nostalgic, old-fashioned “real tomato” flavor, this variety produces beautiful, uniform red fruits generally weighing around 9-10.5 oz (250-300 g). The vines are powerful and require heavy-duty staking, as they often get weighed down by the sheer volume of fruit. While most growers praise its juicy and meaty balance, some find it leaning a bit too far toward the juicy/seedy side. It is a reliable workhorse variety that responds incredibly well to potassium-heavy feeding. Full summary ↓

Tall, indeterminate vine. Highly productive variety. Fruits are red, large, and very juicy.

Mom’s Love was my absolute breakout star of the season! Incredibly heavy yielder. The vine was just loaded with fruit from top to bottom. The tomatoes are a great large size, started ripening early, and kept pumping out fruit right through September. I even have a few still hanging in the greenhouse right now.

I have to agree, the yield on this is fantastic. It’s a heavy feeder and really loves its potassium. For me, the fruits had tons of juice and tons of seeds, but honestly not very meaty.

My plant pushed out 42 tomatoes across the main stem and 3 suckers. Mostly large ones. Mine were actually really meaty with very few seeds. Classic, excellent tomato flavor. I ordered my seeds from Redko and managed to save a huge batch this year.

It’s like we are describing two completely different varieties!

Mine turned out exactly like yours — gorgeous, heavy-yielding, and super juicy. Flavor-wise, I’ve had better, and yes, it was very seedy. Still a very solid variety overall. Huge thanks to Galya-64 for the seeds!

Sveta, that’s because the seedling I grew was a start you gave me! 😂 No wonder our descriptions match perfectly! Absolutely loved the yield on it though 🙏🙏🙏

Honestly, I’m going to grow this one just for the name alone! 😊

Oh, totally forgot to post my picture earlier!

For some reason, I can never seem to get a shot where ALL the tomatoes on the cluster are fully ripe at the same time. Mine always ripen sequentially. Probably for the best, honestly… what would I even do with all of them at once?

Really liked this variety. Grew it outside in the open ground. Heavy yielder, good flavor. Fruit weight sat right around 9-10.5 oz (250-300 g). Juicy and meaty. Big thanks to Nelya for the seeds 🙏

Hey ladies, what kind of leaf is this supposed to have? I have two seedlings going: one has regular leaves, and the other is Potato Leaf 😲

Nadyusha, it’s definitely Regular Leaf. For some reason, lots of varieties are throwing weird stray leaf genetics this year.

Despite the cold and wet summer, this variety performed exceptionally well for me (seeds from Angelina). Really happy with the yield, and especially the sweet flavor. I pruned it to two leaders and grew it in a polycarbonate greenhouse.

Got my seeds from a forum swap. The fruits were incredibly sweet and juicy. Great yield. Definitely growing this one again next season.

Grew this tomato for the first time this year. When I first read about it, I really wanted it but was too shy to ask for seeds. Eventually, I got lucky and a forum member gifted them to me!

I’ve been wanting a true, large red tomato with proper old-school flavor for a long time. I grew a few varieties like that this year, but this one felt special — maybe it’s just the magic of the name. Despite a very late sowing and transplanting date, the healthy bush pumped out large, delicious fruits and was one of the first to ripen. It has that exact classic heirloom taste from childhood!

Mine probably just hated being planted in the middle of the bed. It kept dropping blossoms. Ended up with only 5 large tomatoes, and the taste was just average.

Did you try growing it again this year? How did it do?

Very heavy yielder! The plant literally collapsed several times under the sheer weight of its own fruit. Powerful, tall vine. The flavor is that solid, classic tomato taste.

Produced beautiful, uniform fruits.

I really love this variety. Sometimes you just want a tomato that actually tastes like a tomato, and this one hits the mark perfectly. Growing it for the 3rd year now. Absolutely love these large, tasty, productive red beefsteaks. It’s an indeterminate vine. Huge thanks to Lyuba-Alaviya for the seeds! 🙏

Full Summary: Plant Habit, Yields, and Classic Flavor

  • 🌿 Plant & Foliage: Indeterminate vine. Known as a “powerful” and tall grower that requires heavy-duty staking. If not properly supported, the massive fruit set will literally snap the branches or collapse the entire plant. True-to-type foliage is regular leaf (RL).
  • 🍅 Fruit & Shape: Large, beautiful, uniform red beefsteaks. The average weight sits in the 9-10.5 oz (250-300 g) range, though they can get larger.
  • 📈 Yield & Health: Described by almost all growers as an elite, breakout-level yielder. It is a heavy feeder that requires solid potassium input to support the large fruit clusters. It reliably produces late into the season.
  • 👅 Taste: The flavor profile is highly praised as a nostalgic, classic “heirloom tomato” taste from childhood. While sweet and tomatoey, there is a minor debate regarding texture: some seed lines produce meaty, dense fruits, while others lean very juicy and seed-heavy.
