Orange Berry Tomato Review & Photos: Sweet Bicolor Heirloom

Share your rating
🍅 Quick take: Orange Berry (Oranzhevaya Yagoda) is an indeterminate bicolor heirloom with a surprisingly wispy, scrawny vine habit. It produces oblate, orange fruits with a beautiful pink blush on the blossom end. Flavor reviews are stellar—noted as being exceptionally sweet. However, fruit size and yield seem highly dependent on the grower’s environment and pruning habits, with results ranging from 5 oz (150 g) up to massive 1.1 lb (500 g) beefsteaks. Full summary ↓

Probably the absolute sweetest tomato I grew this season. It’s an indet vine, but mine turned out pretty scrawny, only hitting about 5 ft (1.5 m) tall. Yields were low, though that might just be my own fault for neglecting it a bit.

The fruits are flat-round, orange with a little pink blush on top. Super sweet, but on the smaller side for me, sitting around 5-7 oz (150-200 g). I’m gonna try to dial it in and tame this one again next year. Huge shoutout to Tanya (TatianKa) for the seeds! 🌺

Grown from the Orange Berry seeds Oksana sent me (bless her for sending them! 😘 🌺). Delicious, a heavy yielder, and just gorgeous 👍! Every single tomato I picked was 1.1 lbs (500 g) or bigger. I’m absolutely growing this one again 🙂

Full Summary: Plant, Yield, Taste, and Looks

  • 🌿 Plant & Looks: An indeterminate heirloom that produces gorgeous orange, flat-round slicers with a distinct pink blush (often radiating from the blossom end into the flesh). The plant itself has a somewhat scrawny, wispy habit, which can trick growers into thinking it’s struggling when it’s actually just the natural genetics of the vine.
  • 📈 Yield & Variations: Yield and size vary wildly depending on the garden. One grower had low yields and 5-7 oz (150-200 g) fruits, while another grower—using seeds from that exact same plant line—got heavy yields where every single tomato topped 1.1 lbs (500 g). Proper soil fertility and pruning make a massive difference with this variety.
  • 👅 Taste: Universally praised for its flavor. It is highlighted as being one of the absolute sweetest tomatoes in the garden, making it a top-tier fresh eater.
