Quick Summary of Pineapple Striped (Polosatyy Ananas)
- 🌍 Origin: A stunning bicolor heirloom obtained from an amateur tomato collector in Bulgaria. In Russian collections, it circulates under the translated name Polosatyy Ananas.
- 🌿 Plant Habit: Indeterminate (tall), mid-season variety. Typically grows to about 1.6m (5.2 ft) tall. Performs best when planted in a prime, sunny location.
- 🍅 Fruit Characteristics: Large, rounded heart-shaped (blunt oxheart) fruits. The coloring is a beautiful yellow base with light red/pink stripes and a marbled interior. Average weight is 300–400g (10.5–14 oz), but under optimal conditions, they can easily exceed 600g (1.4 lbs).
- 👅 Flavor & Texture: Highly praised for its taste. It is very sweet, juicy yet meaty, with that classic fruity/bicolor flavor profile. It looks incredibly appetizing when sliced.
Variety description:
Mid-season, height 1.6 m (5.2 ft), fruits 300–400g (10.5–14 oz), rounded heart-shaped. The variety was obtained from an amateur grower from Bulgaria. Yellow with light red stripes, a very tasty and sweet, productive variety.
For me, the bush grew in a bad spot, so the yield was average, but the fruits were beautiful and large (maximum weight 639g / 1.4 lbs). Unfortunately, my notes on the taste were lost, and I don’t remember it anymore myself. Maybe someone else grew this variety?

And here is how my Pineapple Striped turned out, the fruit weight was 300-350g (10.5-12.3 oz). I also really liked the taste.
