Quick Summary of Rhoades Heirloom

  • 🌍 Origin: A classic American heirloom variety. In the Russian tomato community, it is translated directly as “Relikviya Rouds”.
  • 🌿 Plant Habit: Indeterminate (tall). Typically grows to about 1.8 meters (6 ft) in a polycarbonate greenhouse. Growers report excellent results when pruned to 2 stems and planted in a sunny spot.
  • 🍅 Fruit Characteristics: Gorgeous oblate yellow-pink bicolor beefsteaks. The amount of red/pink blushing depends heavily on sun exposure — the more sun, the redder the fruit. They are large, ranging from 150-250g (5.3 – 8.8 oz) up to a massive 500g (1.1 lbs). The flesh is very meaty with very few seeds.
  • 👅 Flavor: Universally praised for its outstanding sweetness and rich aroma. A true dessert tomato.
  • ⚠️ Growing Tips: Be mindful of watering; like many large heirlooms, the fruits can experience minor cracking if the plant is suddenly flooded or overwatered after a dry spell.

Rhoades Heirloom (Relikviya Rouds). One of the truly worthy representatives of the yellow-pink bicolor family.

Indeterminate, a productive and beautiful variety. The fruits are oblate (flattened-round) up to 500g (1.1 lbs), very tasty, meaty, and for me, they were practically seedless. The more sun it gets, the more red-pink tint appears on the fruits. Seeds are from Masha (Murka).

In the polycarbonate greenhouse, the bush was about 1.8 m (6 ft) tall, grew by the wall on the south side. I pruned it to 2 stems. It is good in absolutely every way — taste, yield, and beauty.

I don’t know if such a question is appropriate here — but how does it compare to Burracker’s Favorite? I know there’s no accounting for taste (as the joke goes: all felt-tip pens taste different to different people), but still…?

The height was about 180 cm (6 ft). My fruits were 150-250 g (5.3 – 8.8 oz), juicy, and sweet. They cracked a little when the bed was flooded (overwatered).

I really liked the variety.
