Quick Summary of Syzran Ladies’ Fingers (Syzranskie Damskie Palchiki)
- 🌍 Origin & Name: An heirloom variety from Syzran, a region in Russia historically famous for its legendary tomatoes. The name translates to “Syzran Ladies’ Fingers”. This specific line was sourced from private collector Alla Savinova.
- 🌿 Plant Habit: Indeterminate (tall), typically reaching 1.5 – 1.7 meters (5-5.5 ft) in a greenhouse. Warning: This variety has extremely aggressive sucker growth. If you don’t stay on top of pruning, it will completely take over its surrounding space.

- 👅 Flavor & Performance: Exceptionally sweet and very meaty for their tiny size. They are highly crack-resistant and boast a remarkably long shelf life after picking.

The variety “Syzran Ladies’ Fingers” (from Alla Savinova) grew in my greenhouse. Bush height was 1.5 – 1.7m (5-5.5 ft). People write that if you don’t prune the suckers, they will take over everything around them 🙂. I pruned it and trained it to 2 main stems.
The fruits are like little “candies”. The absolute longest fruit I had was 3.5 cm (1.4 inches). They taste sweet, are very meaty, and do not crack. They also store very well.
