Quick Summary of Toniman
- 🌍 Origin: A rare heirloom variety developed by the well-known Serbian tomato breeder Živojin Antić. It was brought into the Russian collector community by dedicated seed savers.
- 🌿 Plant Habit: Indeterminate (tall) vine. Grows very well in greenhouses when pruned to 2 stems. Growers report that it adapts beautifully and continues to produce high yields in its second generation, even during difficult, unpredictable summer weather.
- 🍅 Fruit Characteristics: Large pink oxheart-shaped tomatoes. Interestingly, the shape can vary slightly on the same plant: some are classic smooth hearts, others display distinct ribbing (pleating) at the shoulders, and smaller fruits often take on an elongated plum shape.
- 👅 Flavor & Texture: The flesh is described by growers as “all meat” (solid and dense) with very few seeds. It has an excellent, sweet flavor and stunning visual appeal.

But my version of this variety is a bit different. Yes, large pink hearts, but quite ribbed (pleated). I liked the taste, and simply the beauty of it! It’s a pity I only took photos once, at the beginning of fruiting.
Thanks to Galochka @axleto for the seeds! Galochka sent me 6 varieties – all of them grew and I collected saved seeds from all of them.
