Bulgarian Wonder (Bolgarskoe Chudo) Tomato Review

Large-fruited, productive. Beautiful pink-raspberry color. The fruits are juicy 😋

The most productive variety in my collection, despite an extreme summer. Long fruiting period. Large-fruited, very tasty, few seeds.

Good afternoon. Could you please tell me what region you live in? Your Bulgarian Wonder turned out very productive. I’m in Siberia, so mine will probably be smaller… I love all tomatoes, my only dealbreaker is low yield (it happens). You can fight with it all you want, but you can’t jump higher than your head… And taking up valuable space for just a couple of fruits… every square inch counts here. Thanks in advance.

Hello Valentina! I live in Sweden, the climate is roughly similar to St. Petersburg – humid, not very warm. Our summer is short, sometimes July gets very hot. But by August the nights already start getting cold. Autumn is usually long and drawn out. We don’t get severe frosts in winter, averaging down to -15°C (5°F) and not for long (due to the Gulf Stream). I think your climate in Abakan might actually be better, it is Khakassia after all. If you have the chance, try planting it. I think yours will turn out just as good. I really loved this variety. Hoping it’ll be just as productive this season.

The yield of my Bolgarskoe Chudo in the greenhouse was slightly above average – 2-3 fruits per truss, but large ones. It set about 4-5 trusses total:

Thank you ))) I will plant it! Yes, Abakan is located in the Minusinsk Hollow and we are somewhat protected from the cold, plus we plant in a greenhouse. I think it will do just fine there.

Valentina, I also really loved Bolgarskoe Chudo, even though I grow everything out in the garden in open ground (under cover at the beginning of the season). The yield was above average and all the fruits were large and tasty. It made it into my top ten best varieties for the 2014 season.

For some reason, the fruits on one bush were of different shapes. I really liked the variety. Tasty and sweet, large-fruited….

In the greenhouse it gets to nearly 2 meters (6.5 ft). But I plant densely, spacing them 25-30 cm (10-12 inches) apart, and prune to 2 stems. One of my favorites 😋

Well, it’s warmer where you are, so the tomato does well… but for me, even in the greenhouse it didn’t thrill me…. 😕 It set a few fruits towards autumn…. I felt so bad for it…. I’ve noticed that many of the southern varieties don’t produce very well up here for us 🤷‍♀️

I also wanted to plant it this year, sowed it twice and silence… the last time was March 1st and still no movement, maybe it’s just hard to germinate??? It’s a pity, I really wanted it, but I’m out of seeds 😢 my only hope is my friend, maybe hers will sprout.

Natalia, if you want, I can send you some seeds right now. If it’s not too late. A letter will probably take about two weeks, I think. Or if you prefer, I can send them in the fall.

Olga! Spaced 25-30 cm (10-12 inches) apart in a greenhouse AND kept to two stems? 😲 Does the variety have a wispy/frail build? 🙂

No, the bush isn’t frail, you could even say it’s powerful. But I prune the leaves heavily, I only leave foliage at the top where tomatoes haven’t set yet. But this year I want to increase the spacing between bushes to 50 cm (20 inches).

I was looking for tomatoes for juicing. Planted 1 bush of BC for the first time. I really liked it. It handled the heat well in the polycarbonate greenhouse (high tunnel). The fruits are large, about half a kilo (1.1 lbs), and beautiful. I remove the megablooms. My husband doesn’t like “ugly” (misshapen) tomatoes. It has a lot of juice, but plenty of meat too. Sweet, and mine ripened perfectly without any yellow shoulders or tough internal white tissue. I will repeat a couple of bushes for juice, and it’s delicious just to eat fresh too.

During this very hot summer, the variety pleased me with an excellent harvest. Seeds were from Kulik.
However, I did get some yellow shoulders, but that’s probably because I underfed it with potassium. I liked the taste, this tomato is perfectly suited for juicing as well.

Second year planting it.

This year I had 2 bushes. The result is positive again. Both bushes were productive, the blossom trusses didn’t dry up and drop.

For me, Bolgarskoe Chudo is one of the best large-fruited varieties. I’ve been planting it for several seasons now. In the greenhouse, it grows to nearly 2 meters (6.5 ft). The fruits are large, pink, with sugary flesh. The taste is excellent, sweet.

The variety is mid-season, not early. But the yield is good. Fruits are large, beautiful, sweet. Seeds from V. Redko.

I really loved the Bolgarskoe Chudo variety. The bush is tall, reached the greenhouse roof, and powerful. Large tomatoes all the way to the top. Productive, tasty, pure solid meat, sweet. Mine didn’t have any yellow shoulders.

Seeds from Kulik, grew in the greenhouse.. I liked them, tasty, no yellow shoulders.. I didn’t take pictures, 🤷‍♀️ don’t know why..

Indeterminate.

Slicing type tomato, the fruits are large, meaty, and tasty. Long fruiting period – at the end of the season I draped the vine over the top support and let it grow back down, and it kept setting fruits until the very end. One of the best of 2020.
