I didn’t link my Black Truffle to the Japanese one…
Now I think it is most likely the same line of varieties.
I ask to move this thread, merging it with Japanese Truffle.
At the very least, the similarity in varieties is obvious.
I only had one question: Are Black Truffle and Black Pear the same variety?
Because I grew both this year and found absolutely no differences!

There is also ‘Bedouin’, the variety is registered in the State Register (unlike all the truffles, which aren’t in it). Bedouin is often called Black Pear.
And it’s unclear if this is all 1 variety or 2-3 different ones.

Well, mine is definitely not Bedouin. Although it’s similar by description.
The names “Black Pear” and “Black Truffle” were not made up by me, they aren’t working titles, they were taken from the seed packet.
I grew the Japanese Golden Truffle this season. Seeds from Dona 70. Excellent tomato in terms of yield, tall, set fruits well despite the lack of heat. Quite good keepers, not dry, maybe just a little bit in the narrow neck part, but tasty, meaty and juicy. In my planting plans for next year.
Lentyaika: Could anyone who specifically grew the Pink Japanese Truffle tell me: what is the plant height… how does it behave during the seedling stage?
As seedlings, they don’t rush upward until planted in the ground, just like the ‘Ildi’ variety (all our other varieties shoot up). The growth energy then increases rapidly, they catch up to other varieties in height up to 1.5 m (5 ft) and in harvest timing. The Pink Truffle bush (Biotechnika) reached 1.5 m and was topped because of the greenhouse roof height, and pushed 2 remaining suckers. The photo of the bush is from today, Oct 7, it’s already cold, the upper leaves turned blue. It was the first of all varieties to start yielding, outperforming all the ultra-earlies and earlies. It outperformed them because today the bush is 11 months old, I kept it after testing seed germination last year.
Red and Orange ones — the green near the stem completely disappears when fully ripe or ripened off the vine.
I planted Bedouin, Black Truffle, and Black Pear. 😳 It’s clearly the exact same variety. And the leaf on all of them is potato leaf. There is also ‘Evan’s Purple Pear’ from Popenko. Exactly the same, but the fruits are slightly smaller, although maybe that’s because it was growing in a bucket. 😳
Planted Orange and Black Japanese Truffle from Biotechnika. Liked both. Bush height 1.5-1.8 m (5-6 ft). Productive, juicy, store well. I continue planting the Orange one for 3 years now from my own saved seeds. The Black one I’ll return in 2016, since it’s one of the best long-storing black tomatoes… tasty in jars and in salads too, dense, not dry… 😋 I agree with Alena – Black Japanese Truffle and Black Pear are the same thing… planted them side by side = twin brothers..
3rd year planting Red Japanese Truffle from Biotechnika. Very productive and tasty variety. In the greenhouse, it grew to the ceiling and I had to bend it over. Set tomatoes right up until the frost. Excellent for pickling and stores for a long time.
Today 2 Truffles from SibSad “stuck” to my hands – Orange and Pink 😳

I received the Red Japanese Truffle at a forum meetup. Sets fruit very well — but the first one got Blossom End Rot (BER), 2 clusters straight to the trash, and right away, the ovary was 1 cm (0.4 in) and the tip was already black.
The bush was flimsy. It topped itself off.
I’m not sure we will be friends in the future.

I have the same nonsense with one bush, it topped itself, but the second one is growing like a typical indeterminate. The bush structure/foliage/fruits are identical. BER appeared on isolated fruits in the third cluster, I treated the leaves with Wuxal Calcium. But I wouldn’t bet money that this variety will strictly be “Red Truffle,” the fruit shape isn’t exactly right.

I already have several miracle-bushes growing from miracle-packers, I wrote about it 🫣.
But it set fruit earlier and more intensely than other truffles, that’s a fact.

Yes, it really sets full clusters, despite everything. If it wasn’t for the tendency toward BER, it would be priceless.
And I bought the Wuxal in Lipetsk. Galochka (God rest her soul) took me to a farmer’s supply store. You can’t find that stuff in our parts 😞

I practically drenched it with calcium nitrate, we’ll see. It also ended up in a bad spot, near the entrance, and the soil dries out faster there than deep in the greenhouse. I’ll try to adjust the watering and see how it behaves.
And the Black Truffle (from the same packer 😄) gave flat-round fruits on the first cluster, but the second one — normal little truffles 😲

Polina, are your truffles in the greenhouse or outdoors? Maybe the Red one would like it better outdoors? It sets fruit awfully well.
And as for the packer — I got an absolutely amazing off-type from them, I fell right in love 😄. And your Red Truffle looks pretty good too.

Len, my truffles are in the greenhouse, but there are a couple outdoors (the ones that didn’t fit 😄). I’ll try to report back closer to August, maybe even start a garden journal.
As for this specific “Red Truffle” — its fruit set in the greenhouse suits me more than enough 👍, the whole problem is BER 😞
And generally, if we look at all truffles and pears, a very interesting picture emerges. There are universal ones (for both greenhouse and outdoors), and there are fussy ones, growing either here or there 😄. But I can say one thing for sure: for my conditions, they are far from early, and growing them outdoors is a huge lottery 😞

I grew Black, Orange, Red, Pink Truffle and Black Pear this season.
Red and Pink truffles for the second season, from my own seeds now.
Last season I wrote that I liked Red better; the same is true this season. So I’m keeping Red, dropping Pink for now. Plus, it was the only one that cracked after watering.
Black and Orange Truffle, and Black Pear, I received as seedlings at a local meetup from Polinka-Borchanochka. Polina, thank you very much.
Black Truffle and Black Pear turned out to be twin brothers. Grew side by side, I could compare. Height, appearance, and taste, everything is identical. Both productive, tasty, store well.
Orange Truffle is just handsome.
All truffles grew on the side bed in the greenhouse, reached the roof, and bent along the dome. Fruits set right up to the very end, I recently had to top them.
The Truffles are definitely staying in my planting rotation.
