I am planning Chukhloma for the ’18 season, but what about Orange Icicle (Oranzhevaya Sosulka) or Melon (Dynnye) which look like icicles? Has anyone compared them? Ninul, I have Orange Icicle from you, it’s not similar to Chukhloma. Yours is orange, and Chukhloma is apricot. They differ both in shape and in yield.
Our bush sat under a cover/canopy, 1.2 m (4 ft) tall, we didn’t remove the suckers, it spread out in all directions. It amazed and delighted us with its harvest. It is not dry, and I sliced it on Nov 13 (photo in diary) for a salad, it stayed perfect even while ripening indoors. The taste is above average to excellent. The bush was removed in mid-October. Extended fruiting, 2.5 months.

I really liked the variety, grew it in the greenhouse in 2 stems. Very productive, set all the clusters, the fruits are dense, firm. Stores quite well, I still have about 10 fruits of this variety lying around.
A productive, late icicle. Taste is ordinary. Good for sun-drying.
Grew in the greenhouse. Beautiful yellow/orange large icicles. Productive, but let down by the taste. Will not plant again.

No! Chukhloma is tastier and juicier, softer. Palmira stores well, is firmer, good for drying and canning jars.
