My Pink Flamingo from the company “Elitsort Nasinnya”, Ukraine. Looking at Galya’s photo, where there is also one tomato with a black spot, I think this is no coincidence. What were these seeds treated with at the company or how were they created? I don’t spray anything. Out of 220 tomato bushes of 88 varieties in 2014, nothing like what happened to P. Flamingo occurred. I’m throwing this packet of “elite” seeds into the fire, crossing it off my list.

I’ve had that happen… Purely physiological cracking. I tend to assume that when the ovary forms from a fused (megabloom) flower, sometimes it gets freed from the flower awkwardly. There is a stronger tension of tissues in one spot on the ovary. It grows somewhat lopsided. And with an additional change in humidity, this place bursts and scars over, as if turning inside out. And you get this nonsense.
My husband says it’s a consequence of poor pollination: pollen hit only one side of the pistil…
It is possible that this specific variety has some genetic predisposition for it…
Perhaps it is a genetic predisposition of this specific variety in that specific greenhouse or wherever it grew… because I grew the same one for 2 years and never observed anything like it… Although last year I had the exact same incident on one tomato, though I don’t remember the variety, it was flat-round.
Forum members, I’ve read the thread both on the old forum and here. Yes, there are many Pink Flamingos, very different ones. So I have a question 😄 has anyone grown the one from the “Poisk” company? What was it like? My seeds have sprouted, very sturdy, they look like dwarf/tree-type (rugose) seedlings 😕
And I have Pink Flamingo from “Biotekhnika” lying around. The fruit shape is supposed to be a large plum, they promise a weight of 150-170 grams (5.3-6 oz).
Polina, I sowed from Poisk — didn’t like the variety. Determinate, sour fruits.

Well, the seedling is growing beautifully, you can immediately tell it will be a dwarf/tree-type with rugose leaves, simply lovely, it doesn’t stretch (get leggy) at all. Oh well, I’ll keep it, it’ll go into juice with the sweet ones to balance them out 😉

Girls, both as a seedling and later the bush itself is sooo beautiful. But I completely disliked the taste. I gave it a chance 2 times, then gave up completely and threw the seeds in the trash, there are much better varieties.
But when I planted Pink Flamingo from “Alena-Lux”, it was a completely different story 👍, the fruits were like goose eggs, beautiful and very tasty. 😋👍
Olya, do you have a photo? I’d like to compare it with mine. The bush was a beauty, but the plum fruits were disappointing. I guess my clumsy hands are to blame. 😉

Galya, Biotekhnika will keep its promise regarding the fruit weight. When I pruned it to a single stem, they were even larger. About 250 grams (8.8 oz). The plant structure itself is very similar to “Yuzhnyi Zagar” (Southern Tan), and until they start ripening, the fruits look just like Yuzhnyi Zagar.
And for me, from Balashov it’s a large plum, and from Popenko it’s heart-shaped. I liked them both very much. The only thing I’ll say is that Popenko’s Pink Flamingo is exactly identical to “Sakharnyi Gigant” (Sugar Giant) from Sibsad.

Galya, I grew this tomato in 2013 in the greenhouse, it grew in 4 stems, 170cm (5.5 ft) tall. The tomatoes were egg-shaped, pink, weighing 80-100g (2.8-3.5 oz). The ripe tomatoes cracked on the bush, with a green spot at the stem. I won’t plant it anymore.
